it’s funny because local politics are mostly unaffected since there’s no such thing as a local meme going viral. but national politics are propelled by whatever ideas are getting dumped into people’s heads during their four-hour daily TikTok or Facebook sessions
Local politics are affected insofar as the national stories feed into partisan cues. People's attentiveness to screens that mostly cover the national as local news collapses is probably why we're ending up with very weak parties and very high partisanship.
Not on Twitter so much, but I think things like anti-homeless posting on local sites like nextdoor or local subreddits can have a big impact on some local elections.
