the problem is that most Americans didn’t watch the debate, and the ones that did aren’t going to rewatch it, which means their “recollection” is actually just what they’re hearing about it, which is that Biden was catatonic and couldn’t talk for 90 minutes
I think the problem is just the difference in medium.
We *saw* the debate. We *read* about Trump falling asleep. The visual really changes the salience for a lot of people.
will, you sound like an asshole when you accuse people who watched the debate and saw something deeply concerning of simply misremembering what they watched. you don’t have a monopoly on correct interpretations. people are allowed to have different reactions in good faith
Trump basically made every possible mistake he could have at the debate and we just aren't allowed to talk about it because the NYT is mad they aren't getting an exclusive interview.
if you put someone in a room with twenty people and had all twenty recite some false event the person supposedly experienced, the person is likely as not to simply construct the memory. social consensus is literally more powerful than memory, something liberal politics ignores
