I think there are a host of ways to understand the intentionally vague "with a sigh," but the poem is clear in its descriptions that neither road is "less traveled." One is "not taken," as per the title. At the end, the narrator lies about it being "less traveled" to make a story out of a non-story.

And that's what these states want. They don't want people with backgrounds in Bronze Age and Classical languages and texts. They don't want people who've studied biblical hermeneutics. They don't even want people who realize that that's a Protestant, not Jewish or Catholic, 10 Commandments.

I, my father, my girlfriend: Teachers. And students. I know the wide array of possible backgrounds for teachers, the diverse quality and usefulness of ed schools, insane pressures, curricular shifts, state requirements. There will be those for whom this is like a nonswimmer thrown. in the deep end.

No, but I’ve certainly seen the situation of someone with, as you point out, a social studies background being asked to teach economics, and they took one course as an undergrad. I think a lot of people would be ill equipped for certain curricular changes, especially in this environment.

Having a text and staying ahead may not be enough, depending on one’s preparation both as an undergrad and grad. Especially in such a suddenly charged and changed situation, it seems problematic.

I agree. Brevity cost me something in this. I think a fair number of people come in not that broadly equipped by an Ed degree, especially if their undergrad degree wasn’t history, and they may not have studied religion in society much at all. It might be a daunting addition to one’s curriculum.

OK mandates a Bible in EVERY classroom. "Without basic knowledge of it, Oklahoma students are unable to properly contextualize the foundation of our nation" is a lie; there's nothing in the texts about democracy, rep. government, or indiv rights, and the Bible is not referenced in the Constitution.
