That statistic about lawnmowers killing more people than AR-15s is a little less surprising when you consider that a lot of lawnmowers are just off-road vehicles without seat belts or meaningful enforcement of drunk-driving laws.

I don't know if it is necessarily a contradiction. They see violent masculinity as a virtue, so if white men like them are portrayed as violently masculine it's a positive portrayal in their eyes regardless of authorial intent. That's something slightly different (and scarier) than media illiteracy.

You're right about it being a professor at the same university (I got confused because of the CSU Long Beach professor in the mix) and parts of my timeline were muddled. But I don't think that makes the situation much less unsettling because those weren't the unsettling details of the case.

It ultimately went decently well. Pushing for a ceasefire as a compromise position seems to work surprisingly well, since a lot of liberal zionists seem to have at least some recognition that a prolonged war ultimately threatens Israel's existence.
