This will be an interesting day to reflect on in the future.
"Battery cells at $50/kWh means the technology to decarbonize most of road transport globally is already here, as opposed to in some future scenario."
EVs are cheaper than ICE now. Today.

Many? Biden will put up Assad like numbers against Trump with the Times readership and Sulzberger hates it

Harris is the only option as a Biden replacement at this time, but nowhere near a lock against Trump and has not even been subject to actual negative campaigning from the right.
This election is going to be close, we have accept it

to his detriment, I believe Biden has viewed his job until 1.5 weeks ago as being President, with unpopular "tough decisions" rather than campaigning for President.
I still have faith that the convention will feature a bold agenda for the second term and the polling looks better in 2 months

there's not going to be a resistance if Trump gets elected again. they'll find an opportunity to shoot protesters early on and nobody will decide it's worth risking death to do it anymore. the media orgs already are on board.
real American dark ages stuff here, no idea how long it lasts

If we want to constitutionally amend the role of the Presidency so we can just nominate celebrities (or a certain former first lady) to the role of Head of State, then let's do that. Otherwise we have to be realistic with what we're demanding

We're not going to defeat rising fascism in this country if the electing a Democrat to the combined Head of State/Head of Government President role requires S-tier charismatic politicians (like Obama and Bill Clinton)

We're letting entire media cycles be driven by an effort to run a last-second elite-only primary campaign against an incumbent President who had a bad debate, is just starting to campaign for reelection, and is clearly still in a close race.

This really comes down to the revolution happening outside of a lot of consumer tech (excluding EVs), and there's replies here lamenting the inability of IRA funds to actually make consumer cleantech accessible

Regular people are going to remember how Trump emboldened the worst people in their families and communities by the time the election rolls around and it's going to be bad for Trump. Four years is just long enough for them to forget, but they'll remember quickly. I've been saying this for years.

I know they get rolled all the time but for the Times to get rolled by “actually they just want to reclaim the values of Western civilization as they see it … with larger families and fewer immigrants” is the Times putting the 14 words in the paper

The thing that's obvious to everyone and that nobody can actually write in the press is that the American (and yes, I'm sure elsewhere too) right wing is led by bad people and the object is to make more people extremely bad in basically every respect. It's anti-society
