I think it's reasonable to acknowledge that the Biden situation is complicated and to explore the complications. Absolute certitude does none of us any good because none of us have even the smallest amount of power or control here. Positioning yourself further away saves your mental health.

But that also brings up a question - is that baked in for swing voters in a way that is trouble for the Biden campaign, or is that baked in for Democrats in a way that they'll begrudgingly vote for Biden come November? Where's the movement coming from?

This is also based on the assumption that Biden voters aren't getting caught up in the whirlpool of the freakout, which would also make the susceptible to subsequent freakouts about a different candidate. This shit's complicated and uncertain!

The argument I'm most sympathetic to in favor of Biden dropping out is that it would stop sucking up all the air in the discourse so we could replace it with stuff like this, but that's resting on the rickety assumption that there wouldn't be another story made up to keep us from talking about this.

I'm increasingly neutral on Biden dropping out, but increasingly polarized on the absolute hatchet job the Times is trying to pull here on the guy. Shit sucks and we shouldn't give them the power to do this successfully because it leads to bad places.

I also really don't want the President to be in an environment where he can't be candid with anyone outside his inner circle on his performance because that's where stuff can really go upside down. You have to be able to talk about how you biffed it to keep from biffing it again.

I just counted home page stories. The Daily Caller has five anti-Biden and six pro-Trump stories. The New York Times has seven anti-Biden stories and three that give this style of both-sides treatment to Trump. The Times really is sprinting off a cliff to satisfy their nepo-publisher’s vendetta.
