I learned so much in the reporting of this story, but the piece I can't stop thinking about is how older adults "don't sense heat in the same way," according to UOttawa's Glen Kenny.
In other words, the elderly can't easily self-identify harmful heat.
I'm 55, through menopause, and notice how easy it is for me to run too hot. It's a bit worrying already and it doesn't get horribly hot where I am very often.
@katharinehayhoe.com thank you for bumping this into my feed. And Zahra thank you for a timely report. I’ve relocated to live with my elderly mother. She’s been outside in a recent heat spike and keeps saying she feels fine. This gives me an angle to approach her regarding heat.
