the most frustrating thing that makes refusing to use qr code/download app is the absolute lack of awareness on how the whole endeavour of this digitisation/automation is all about data harvesting (& surveillance by extension)
I mean at a chain place sure, my local places it's just a direct link to like menu.pdf on their Wix page or something
(I work in InfoSec, so yes, I realize this could still be weaponized, but still)
Privacy rules. If you download the app, marketing can do all sorts of things with your data and purchasing history that they can't do if you don't use the app. It's all perfectly legal because it's covered in the EULA. π‘
I'm not going to download an app unless I plan to go there a lot.
The data mining is so obvious when you consider there isn't anything there app does that a web page could not do. In fact, they can do lots of data harvesting with a web page. I don't understand what more they can get from an app, but it must be something to make it worth the effort. 1/2
Oh boy, a local restaurant decided their online menu had to have a βclick yes if you love us! (Allow data gathering)β and I just. No you donβt get to pull that shit holy crap
most ppl think you're just being annoying and fail to see the justification for your refusal. ofc, it is made to appear as benign and efficient by design while the surveillance element is viewed as a byproduct
