Every product America makes is getting SHITTIER to the point where our flagship- airplanes- are falling out of the sky, and it's all due to MBA's and Economists making the dumbest most obviously bad decisions on all fronts for decades. We literally killed the golden goose to juice shareholder value.
John Deere, another huge export for us, decided that they needed to become a renteir subscription company that screwed over their customer base rather than make the most durable best performing machines. CAT is going the same way. Why? To juice shareholder value. Now people seek alternatives.
And the share holder's can't even make monuments to their opulence, because we don't know how to build anything that lasts anymore, and public goods are passe. This money is being hoarded and funneled into fossil fuel burning with zero lasting physical investment to show for it.
"We've been having so much fun hoarding billions that we forgot the peons we pay peanuts still need to occasionally make stuff that works for more than a day.
Must be those damn immigrants fault."
Are the decisions “dumb” while everyone is just trying to maximize profits on this sinking ship of an earth? Or are they incentivized? We need top-level policy change that reshapes our economic system. We need to stop complaining and start envisioning
It takes a while to find useable wood at a big box hardware store. They put my local lumber yard out of business then stopped selling the supplies I need to keep my small business afloat.
Barnes & Nobles loyalty plan was so good it put everyone out of business. Then they ended the loyalty plan.
I drive an 18yo Silverado pickup, a 12yo Scion xB (Toyota), and ride an 8yo Victory Cross Country. Not buying anything new until Canoo delivers my EV pickup.
question, as a leftist, is this one of those issues that we get 2 see impove in *our* lifetime, or are we gonna die in a world where everything from our fast food sanwiches to our airplanes and buildings are *so* cheaply made that they all collapse and implode almost instantly
my like 4 year old furnace is about to catch fire if used and it's in the 20s out, my fairly new hot water tank is on the verge of exploding, just had to replace my microwave etc etc etc.
real hard not to burn shit or do a Lil hunting.
Just when you became comfortable in the “knowledge” that the ‘80’s was the most infamous decade of decadence, hedonism, and greed…SMDH
Now, the ‘80’s are being “outperformed” by the ‘20s of the 21st Century.
“Eat the rich…divide the spoils.” I imagine that quote is becoming more palatable to many.
the words "perverse incentives" spring to mind
when executives can safely assume they can loot and pillage without any pushback, the directive "make the most money" turns into a mandate to rip the copper out of the walls
For boeing, the rot started in 1997 with the merger of McDonnell Douglas. Boeing went from an airplane company in seattle to a finance company in chicago in short order, and it has been a downward spiral since. It will take possibly just as long to correct course. Execute their management imo
My grad school buddy tried name his band The Gilded Age to point this out, but another San Diego band had taken that name so they went The New Gilded Age.
In like 2006.
There is absolutely no incentive or reason for them not too. The government has made it absolutely clear that they are not going to do anything to stop them, in fact it is more profitable for our government to help them.
