yes, we boiled the planet, but it was worth it to make a machine that, instead of adding two plus two, takes the statistical average of every answer to questions containing "what" "is" "two" and "plus" from a database of illegal cell phone transcripts and returns a fake nude pic of a high schooler

It's taken me many years, but I'm finally learning that if someone is wrong and they aren't prepared to see it, and I'm not forced to interact with them, the best strategy is just to disengage and move on. Life online is much more tranquil when you just block and forget about it.

Someone suggested that Labour called off campaigning in marginals and poured it into Corbyn's seat pointlessly because Starmer saw Streeting coming for him and wanted to set him up to lose, and I can't stop smiling at the thought.

One final thought before bed: I think Scotland is going to end up regretting going back to the Labour party. Political memories are very short, and people seem to have forgotten how Labour treated Scotland as a backwater irrelevance and personal fiefdom. Labour haven't changed.

While the consistently pro-trans Corbyn smashed it. If Starmer chooses not to pivot away from transphobia, then, we can be fairly certain a big money donor is demanding he pander to terversion.

According to Wikipedia, the new Green MP for North Herefordshire (Ellie Chowns) is an Effective Altruist. "Chowns is a member of Giving What We Can, a community of people who have pledged to give at least 10% of their income to effective charities.[13]"

You know what, if we are walking into the end of the world, at least we're taking all these cunts with us. At least none of the rich, the powerful, and the profane will survive. If we cannot have beauty, let us have spite.

Meanwhile, vaccination is one of these areas where real harm results from people choosing not to be vaccinated, and especially from not having their children vaccinated. Frankly, not vaccinating children against disease is child abuse. A parent is making a choice for a child that manifestly harms.

People don't like this because it makes them feel squeamish about reproductive health, but I think the difference is clear. Whether you choose to have children or not, there will on balance be enough people in the world for the human race to carry on. In a Children of Men scenario, yeah, different.

Frankly, the concept of absolute bodily autonomy is bullshit. We owe pieces of our being to each other. The argument is how much we owe, and which particular pieces. My conviction is our health is a collective endeavour, dependent on all its constituent parts, and so we owe everyone vaccination.

Anyone who wants to make a bodily autonomy argument needs to contend with the fact that people who cannot benefit from a vaccine (doesn't work on them) are vulnerable to infection unless everyone who can be vaccinated acts as a firewall. Your immune system is not entirely your own concern.

My most extreme conviction is that vaccination against infectious diseases should be routine, free, and mandatory for all people, save where there's medical evidence the person would not be able to biologically tolerate the vaccine. Measles, mumps, rubella, chickenpox, HPV, covid, etc. Mandatory.

I got spoiled for lore in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. Was very, very mad about it. Oh well.

Hell with it, then: I went and read all the new lore. And it's given me a theory that explains Melina and the Gloam-Eyed Queen:

Looking back I realize there was a bait-and-switch pulled on American kids growing up regarding communism vs capitalism. They compared the worst things that happened to people in communist countries against the best things that happened to wealthy people in capitalist countries.

The most boring outcome is Trump fucks it somehow, maybe dies after nomination, and Biden gets it by default. RNC implodes, actual fascists seize control of it. DNC learns nothing, and we're back to doing this same shit in 4 years for higher stakes. Probably that.

This is extremely promising. If they could make this work for covid and then ensure everyone got vaccinated with it, there's potential it could actually end the pandemic. Early days, but we desperately need something like this.

I think one of the things about life you just have to reconcile yourself to is that many of the most critical people never try to do or fix the things they criticise. The least critical (not as in ideology) people I've met have all been and done, and so understand what it is to try.

Someone once told me that they learned more in 30 minutes of me criticising their writing than they had in three years spent reading guidance on writing. This led me to reflect on why. The answer, I found, is that you can't say what does or doesn't works generally, only specifically.

Nobody else can tell you how to write. All the general advice is useless. There's no right way to do it - and so no wrong way. Either advice is customised for you, or it's like so much writing without an audience: masturbatory nonsense. For writing, only this: fuck around and find out.

Good video. GPEW are decidedly mid as a supposedly leftwing party, and some of their candidates are transphobes, but if you can be bothered to do your homework and the local candidate doesn't suck and you have nothing better to do, not the worst way to spend a vote.
