oooh, I see! yeah I've done a few things that aren't based on comics - but they were mostly based on themed artbooks instead. The few times I have done contextless merch, it has been more effort than it has ultimately been worth. It steals time and focus from the stuff I WANT to be doing.

I can't speak for US cons, having never tabled at one - but across the different cons I HAVE tabled at, it is absolutely my comics that have sold the best. Stickers always sell, but the surrounding merch only makes sense if your comic is already popular enough for people to *want* those things.

FFX had an active party of 3 characters, and you could swap people in and out during the battle. It has some similarities with Pokemon (the swapping making your full party available at all times), while also having more active characters on-field than Pokemon usually does Plus overdrive mechanics.

you can of course keep a main character from changing even in a sequel, but a sequel still has to build *something* new - in plot, setting, new threats to the status quo, etc. A prequel just has to colour in bits of the past you've already implied.

someone said younger actors are cheaper and that's probably part of it but part of it is imho that prequels only fill gaps/build up to an established character: they don't *change* the character people already love. The popular end-state is already defined and so it feels like a safer bet, maybe?

I have slept approximately six hours since Friday morning because insomnia hit me like a *truck* this weekend but on the bright side I got to watch nearly 48 hours of SQDG, and watching a bunch of nerds raise 2.5 million dollars for MSF is a good antidote to the political doomerism online.
