A big bonjour from the totally normal-looking La fiancée (1894) by Émile Fabry (1865-1966). (I haven't been able find out whether this was his fiancée or someone's else's.) #LesBelges

There’s a picture book waiting to spring from my neighbour’s phone autocorrecting Cat Bed to Cathedral. “She’s in her cathedral” is a nice image on which to end the day.

Goodnight skyline. Today I spent 7 hours in the Louvre, documenting every moon in the building. I am completely done in.

Equaliser 3? This is hilarious. Not even Texas Chain Saw or early Cronenberg, or Grave of the Vampire, which really did very nearly make me faint at the Holloway Odeon in 1975? Also I had to walk out of Lucky Luciano because I was so stoned I became convinced my head was going to fall off.

La démoniaque (1893) by Joseph Middeleer (1865-1939), not best known for his Symbolist paintings. But it is inscribed in Belgian Law that even its social realist or landscape painters uphold the national psyche by producing occasional evidence of artistic nuttiness. #LesBelges

Whenever she got obstinate and refused to move, I found I only had to move my hand towards my pocket and she would suddenly become biddable! (I felt a bit mean doing that so she would still get the treat, sooner or later.)

Pretty much every move I’ve ever made in comics since age 25 has been inspired by the 70-year-olds I saw in comic con Artist Alleys, cranking out sketches of characters they created but don’t own, to pay their doctor bills and nursing home fees.

Government should function effectively in the background like white goods. But for the past years it's been like your fridge-freezer noisily demanding attention every 5 mins, switching off for hours at a time, fiddling its definition of 'cold', and eating your food then blaming the washing machine.

You might feel underwhelmed. For me, it was a film that gained in stature each time I saw it (see also: Vertigo). I liked it just fine the first time, but it's only once you know what's going on that it reaches its full tragic dimension on both political and personal levels.

Dipped briefly back into twitter & saw one of the few accounts I miss from there, John Frankensteiner, posting about how Towne hated the movie Greystoke so much he credited his script to his dog, who then went on to win an Oscar.

Towne started out as an actor on films like Corman's CREATURE FROM THE HAUNTED SEA (1961) which has the goofiest, Cookie Monster-est monster ever. (I think he's the guy saying "You're a crazy mixed-up kid") www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-7j...

One of Towne's first screenplays was for Roger Corman's THE TOMB OF LIGEIA (1964). A Major Cat Movie! (& in one scene you can see an anonymous hand holding the cat in position). Elizabeth Shepherd, still with us, was original choice to play Emma Peel in THE AVENGERS. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Imbd...
