The new normal for summer in Vancouver. Average temps of 25.5C (including overnight). The first graph is from a shady part of our balcony. The second is inside, away from windows. The overnight inside temperature last night after the AC shut down was 26C!

Vehicular cycling is a few things at once: *fine for that sliver of people who are cool with it, *a last-ditch coping strategy for most other people who bike, *a disproven strategy to use for the system as a whole, *a corrosive influence in both engineering and advocacy, & *thankfully on the wane.

Waiting for my turn to speak at tonight's Park Board meeting. 2 items on the agenda and I expected the second one (the one I'm speaking to) to be the more contentious one. I failed to consider the first item was budget related and the city governing party & park board aren't on the same page.

I mean, that's just because all the routes in SE Vancouver are sketchy. Seriously, though, it regularly recommends Main St and Kingsway, which, while direct require a certain class of cyclist. On the west side it seems to prefer crossing arterials at alleys. I don't get it.

I know it's much less convenient than just using Google Maps but have you tried www.komoot.com ?

Google Maps is horrible for bicycle routing around Vancouver. Like, actively-trying-to-kill-you. Komoot (yes, there's an app) is great for both short and long trips. #bikeyvr

Sad news over at CBC Vancouver, longtime former host Rick Cluff has died of cancer.
I grew up in a CBC radio household and he was a part of the daily morning soundtrack.

HUB Cycling is running a 6-week long Women's Summer Cycling Program at Trout Lake July & August. It's aimed at beginners: from people who are still learning to pedal/balance to those who know how to ride a bike but want more support building skills to ride to work or bike w/their children. #bikeyvr

It's not bribery, they're gratuities after-the-fact as a reward for doing the thing the person wanted you to do. Bribery, as we're learning, is being given money beforehand to do something someone else wants you to do. The land of the free, etc, etc.

Phineas and Ferb is one of those cartoons that had as much in it for adults as it did for kids. So well written, *fun* and optimistic. I think it shaped the childhood of many (North American) millennials.
