Considering the person whose supposed “goalposts” you are referencing liked this skeet, pretty sure I didn’t move them. Forrester gave people the confidence to ride in dangerous conditions. His flaw is that he advocated against safer infrastructure which actually gets more people to use bikes.

I am skeptical of the ability to add floors of housing without partial demolition simply due to the 2nd floor being almost entirely theaters. Reducing the total number of theaters might be a possibility, but that's more likely to align with the tower alternative being floated.

Please explain how he varied his suggestions for someone riding on a rural road compared to someone riding in a dense downtown. His opposition to any on street bike facilities means that by definition he thought they both should be riding in mixed traffic.

A new study is 1st effort to quantify different types of residential zoning across a representative set of US cities.
In small cities, ~70% of land is zoned single-family; it's ~45% in large cities.

This is going to be a great new location for City Lit Books. Closer to the train station and bus transfer center, more restaurants nearby to generate drop in traffic while waiting for a table or friends, along with proximity to La Placita, whose event programming will spur foot traffic too.

If I lived in a flood plain I would really lean into having a house that was up on stilts with a floating shack (connected to a few anchored posts like a dock) for all the things I would only use on the ground (gardening stuff, my smoker, lawn games, patio chairs, etc.)

Also the irony that Chicago DOT invited me to a charette about Milwaukee a dozen years ago that was led by the Dutch cycling embassy. We proposed making it 1 way in alternating segments (or bus & bike only) in the narrowest segments where protected bike lanes won’t fir w/ 2 lanes & any parking.

I have sent & referenced the studies (from many places) in many emails to elected officials over the years. It has been successful on some streets w/ some aldermen. Milwaukee from California to Belmont (excluding the improvements coming to the square), is a section where it has fallen on deaf ears.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. Results showed that close to half of the participants secured housing, and nearly $600K saved in public service costs due to fewer ER visits & jail stays. They also saw improved mental health.
