Technically our president can only associate criminally if our president gives those criminals jobs in the executive branch, thereby making their association part of a core presidential function.
Also, our president can only launder money doing it through criminals they put in the executive branch.
Latin America has plenty of smart leaders who work hard to root out the corruption that our governments often prefer. We might support a coup against them. They are up against a lot. Their own corrupt sectors and ours
Technically speaking Trump couldn't do this as President, but if he did it as President none of the evidence against him would be admissable! So if you could convict him without evidence, that would work!
It is not so clear Brazilian rules are better: was a real blow to democracy when former president Lulu was jailed on corruption charges and disqualified from running for election again (and then the prosecutor was appointed to the new right wing government!)
