I’ll admit, I am on the side that would very much like for him to step aside. I think there are real concerns there. Shouldn’t it be possible to hold that view while also pointing out the massive failures and horrifying evils of the other guy? I guess I’m confused why it has to be one or the other.

Sometimes I think autocorrect was invented solely because I can never, ever, spell "separate" correctly on the first try.

Apparently for Men of Our Age it’s either smoked meats or IPAs, with a side of either WWII or the Roman Empire. I don’t make the rules.

If we're talking Hope, not Optimism, then I agree, for this and the climate crisis. There's no giving up at this point, but we must go into the fight clear-eyed, understanding now how bad things are inevitably going to get, and recognizing the odds are long against us. Nevertheless, we Persist.

People have been so focused on the presidential campaign that they just ignored the very real ways SCOTUS has been maneuvering in decisions this term to set up a dictatorship. First the overturning of Chevron, now this. It’s bad. Real bad.

You’re right that Congress wouldn’t be able to get such a bill through. But SCOTUS would probably declare it unconstitutional. Their intent hasn’t been for Congress to “do its job.” They’re carrying out the Federalist Society’s long-term vision here, which is a judiciary that protects the oligarchs.

The SCOTUS decisions this term have had some…disastrous effects for American democracy.

Reading the Opinion, Impeachment wouldn’t matter. A Judge would still have to conduct evidentiary hearings to determine the “facts” around personal vs official acts. Legislation could help determine personal vs official, but at this point, SCOTUS probably declares such an law unconstitutional.

Not so much a collective action nightmare as party movers doing the horse trading it would require. It only seems odd because the parties have let these muscles atrophy. But as I keep being told, these are "unprecedented times" so... There are party operatives out there with skills in this.

Proper whipping at the convention would ensure Biden didn't get the nomination on the first ballot. After that, there's a lot more room to maneuver.

It makes it a more difficult path than Reagan had for sure. But the DNC rules do allow for such a push. It's not the case that Biden would have to release the delegates to allow an open convention to proceed. There are sufficient numbers of delegates from states where there is not a binding clause.

Hard isn't the same thing as impossible, but yeah, him stepping aside is the easiest path, and only two people (working together) can make that happen: Jill Biden & Jim Clyburn. Otherwise, his ego would never allow him to do it. But there's still a very ugly Reagan '76 path open at the convention.

Of course they’re spinning it. You knew the fix was in last night when Lawrence was on MSNBC last night talking about debates being stupid and the format was bad etc. Biden camp got the word to him to try and downplay it early. Tomorrow’s talking heads appearances are gonna be endless tap dancing.

In a world where we still had a functioning Democracy Party, Biden would be yanked after tonight and we’d be talking about Newsom by noon tomorrow. Biden is losing badly tonight. We’re in trouble.
