if you do not scramble through the first playthrough of a fromsoft demon souls type game like a shithouse rat (without looking up "builds" and "metas" and "secrets" on the internet) you are doing yourself a mondo disservice
Elden Ring kinda fucks with that. Having no direction whatsoever for what you want to get at least at the start of the game for your preferred style of play will end up with you missing crucial equipment because it's not linear.
The rest tho, yeah.
I only look up builds/playthrough guides, etc after I fumble my way through a game first. I enjoy looking like a bumbling murder hobo at least once in every game I play. Just a guy who accidentally became the main character and doesn't know how anything works is my gender.
this is how i gave up on all souls games forever after bouncing off the first boss in the first game like 37 times, and honestly yeah uninstalling and never looking back was the right call
My first time through dark souls I quit after two weeks of banging my head against the skeletons at firelink shrine because I didn’t have internet access and I was told the game is really hard
my first experience with a soulslike was dark souls 2. i didn’t know anything about the games and i was like 14 years old. i tried to keep my stats as balanced as possible
One of my favorite experiences in gaming is blundering through a Souls boss and accidentally killing it on the first attempt.
Twisty lion in the DLC was the latest. It killed me, but the crimson rot got it before the fade to bonfire.
my first Dark Souls 1 playthrough was spent fat rolling and poking things from a shield with a halberd.
I honestly wish the series didn't go in the direction it did and that being a slow tank was still a way you could play the game
