March 23 1933, the Enabling Act becomes law in Germany, giving the chief executive power enforce his own laws without checks and balances. The passing of the Act marked the formal transition from democratic republic to totalitarian dictatorship. 6 months later, it was a 1 party state.

Criminalizing a simple, easy, personal tool for public health is absurd and incredibly harmful. Masking whenever, wherever, for whatever reason, should be a completely normal and accepted part of life in a society.

Mask bans are evil and dystopian and I am appalled that they’re even being proposed. Wearing masks to protect your health and the health of others needs to be recognized as a right for all and an absolutely essential protection for those who would otherwise be unable to participate in society

Just finished Paul Monette's Borrowed Time: An AIDS Memoir. A devastating read emotionally, a ravishing read from a literary perspective. From the 1st page, I surrendered to its narrator. Deeply pained that Monette died of the same disease that killed his partner not long after publication. #Pride

Thank you, Bentley, for drawing attention to the climate crisis in Florida. We are feeling the effects on multiple fronts--sea-level rise, flooding, more intense storms, extreme heat--& citizens are bearing the brunt of the onslaught while our governor strikes "climate change" from state records.

Imagine a society so consumed w/greed that instead of preserving life through climate change reform they choose to strip away birth control for cheap labor & in place of saving the earth, place their bets on moving to Mars. The plot of a dystopian novel is our reality. This is the worst timeline.

It doesn't mention it? That is negligent. We in Florida have home insurance rates 5 times the national average, and it's due to the effects of climate change. Even our car insurance is higher because of it. Editors do readers a disservice by not connecting rising costs to the forces that drive them.

Wow. Just read this. So powerful and heartbreaking and infuriating. Kudos to Penguin Classics and translator Gwen Harper for giving us this work in English. DH is from LatAm and lived through military takeovers. The first account of the protest rings so true for him.
