Purely anecdotally and from a family perspective, because of this power grab, a family member was murdered on May 2, 1933, along with 3 other opponents of the Nazis by the auxiliary police SA. Trump has his Proud Boys + other militias who are only too happy to take on the role of auxiliary police.

AND... the Enabling Act was followed 15 months later by the Night of the Long Knives, when Hitler killed or imprisoned *other Nazis* he saw as rivals or dangers to his power. Perhaps someone should remind Republicans about that.
