Their roommate has OCD and is studying to be a psychologist, so when we were hanging out and watching SATC before bed, they told me all about what they've learned living with OCD and studying it for their degree and BOY HOWDY does it make a lot of my current struggles make a lot of sense. 🫠

I'm really blessed to have an amazing partner who understands who it's like to be going through the kind of mental health struggles I am (especially since it centers on past heartbreak) They listened to me cry and express my hurts all yesterday and held me and comforted me and then we made curry :)

Getting tested soon hopefully for autism and OCD. My therapist has done amazing in connecting my past to why I’m like this now, and why I have intrusive thoughts constantly about my ex. Relationship OCD. Autism. “People can be your special interest and it hurts even more when they’re gone”

Bat wings also contain unique patterns to them and may be able to be used to ID individuals like human fingerprints. To do all of this we need to “transilluminate” the wing. As pictured, I use a very fancy device called a Crayola®️ Light Tracing Board. lol

We also use biopsy punches to take samples of bat skin for DNA analysis (as I said their wings heal very quickly so the holes left behind are healed in no time!). The large veins between their tails and legs are where we would take a blood sample from a bat as well!

Bats use their wing and tail membranes to fly, a flight method used by no other group of animals beside the pteradons (skin over bone wings). We use bat wing/tail membranes to gauge their health. A heavily scarred wing membrane can be an indicator of past injury or previous White Nose infection.

Bat wing and tail membranes are amazing biological adaptations!! 🦇 They’re made up of thin, stretchy, and incredibly resilient skin that’s able to heal rapidly from injury (and bats injure their wings a lot when crawling around roosts and such).

My first therapist like 8 years ago said I had “mild OCD-like tendencies,” but the way I was during my first major breakup and during this last year of breakup feelings… starting to feel less mild. lol Plus I have a real kicker of BPD fueled mommy issues that… probably have a lot to do with this 🫠

Starting to dawn on me that my depression and anxiety may be pretty heavily related to OCD (intrusive thoughts, obsessive rumination, “what if” spirals) Think I’m gonna become a “CBR workbook guy” and try to find ways to be less… miserable. lol (My therapist was not surprised I asked about R-OCD)

It’s perfect for teens especially considering modern suburban fragmentation: things aren’t FAR, they’re just gated from each other w/ entrances on roads with no pedestrian infrastructure. Safer and easier to zoom on the bike around the development, than to hop a fence and wade through a ditch

Took a boat 26 miles around a peninsula to deploy bat detectors on this WILD offshore research station. 🗼🌊⛴️ It was coated in a truly impressive amount of bird shit. But now it’s got a shiny new pelican case full of hand soldered wires to listen for bats with. ✨🦇
