Most of those communities exist because they have some level of support and care for the aging. Removing them would add a whole other level of burden of care on younger people.
maybe you could make them into mixed communities with a focus on fostering mixed-age social groups that look out for each other, instead of fundamentally unnatural age segregation
I see your point but "we refuse to sell to people who are (x)" is the kind of thing you should be pretty suspicious off generally, without regard for what (x) is
Iām all about actual assisted living, whether for seniors or disabled folks. I also understand fixed incomes for retirees. This is a fucking gated community with a clubhouse & pool.
1/3rd of the elderly are experiencing poverty, most are on fixed incomes, and a good many of these 55+ communities are subsidized and also house disabled folks of every age
As someone who was a caregiver for my parent I understand that some of these communities who offer care, and that's less that's offloaded on younger people, but some of these places literally just have the logic of "I don't wanna hear or see those 40 year old whippersnappers" behind them.
Places that are selling single family homes to 55+ people are not usually assisted living, and often have language excluding to younger ppl (including family members and caretakers) from living there with the owners
