The problems are big and sometimes feel insurmountable. Grateful for days when I can make a little impact by going for a bike ride. Did my first delivery for Bike Brigade Halifax today! Picked up at Common Roots Woodside and delivered to the Dartmouth Community Fridge.

Halifax will be a cycling city come hell or high knotweed. Not surprising every person who walked/rolled/cycled by expressed some form of gratitude for our work. I’m mad and disappointed this city fails them.

Vehicular cycling is not a bad strategy in places with no bike infrastructure, but a big reason why there's no bike infrastructure in so many places — even places that would be natural fits for it — is because Forester and his disciples opposed it for decades!

Thanks for reporting the glass! Not sure a pic of the knotweed will make any difference since my telling them that I nearly had a head-on collision with another cyclist didn’t spur any urgency.

#BikeHfx PSAs: Large shards of broken glass on the Barrington Greenway, near the encampment. Be aware!

Additionally, the knotweed is going wild again and obfuscating visibility at Barrington/Devonshire. I did not manage to snap a picture this morning, but hopefully will this week and report.

I had a little thread about this a couple of weeks ago. First reported it June 11. After multiple follow ups over several weeks, was told it would be done within the next few weeks. It is not a priority because it’s a “secondary” travelway.

The new bike corral outside the Good Robot beer garden is overflowing on a Monday. No surprise to #BikeHfx.
What is surprising?
- the biz was crowing about its car parking & I had to ask for bike parking
- they listened
- the city installed it *within the same decade* it was requested

I want people to understand that prioritizing pedestrians includes *blind and partially sighted folks* and this design does not. There is no detectable difference for them between the sidewalk & bike lane. And the tactile warning strip at the intersection means nothing to a guide dog.

In traffic engineering, the delay drivers cause each other is valued and justifies major public road projects, but the delay drivers cause pedestrians is not generally not valued. Instead, pedestrian protections are still usually regarded as safety measures that delay “traffic” (motorists).

It wasn’t there yesterday. Possible that it was a casualty of whatever happened over the weekend - I had to 311 that one of the corrals was knocked over and the planter moved. I suggested that they might want to weigh down the planters and actually secure the corrals 🤷🏻‍♀️
