Halifax will be a cycling city come hell or high knotweed. Not surprising every person who walked/rolled/cycled by expressed some form of gratitude for our work. I’m mad and disappointed this city fails them.

Psst. Just 5 more sleeps until the July #KidicalMassHfx ride in Dartmouth's Shubie Park. The weather is shaping up nicely, and we're getting excited for the Shubie Pump Track! All the details are up on our website, here: hfx.bike/kidical-mass...

Do you remember which one this was? We could maybe request it for the August KM ride?

This was exactly my thinking when I saw it. Both creepy and intriguing at the same time.

Because someone else mentioned using them for art: 10 years ago I saw an art exhibit that used kids teeth, donated by parents. It still kinda haunts me/occupies a lot of space in my brain anytime someone mentions losing teeth/the tooth fairy: www.ginaczarnecki.com/palaces

Speaking as someone who shared an e-bike for approximately 18 months; I think you are correct: hard to share; because it’s so fun and easy to ride. It didn’t take long before we bought a second one.

My next jazz performance is coming up! Pretty excited about this one.
Playing bass in a small group as part of the Halifax Jazz Festival, Sunday July 14th 12 pm at the Hydrostone park (5547 Young St). Free!
(Unfortunately I will miss the #KidicalMassHfx July ride but maybe you can do both!)

Not quite what we had planned, but our back-up plan will work out okay! Just happy to be out of the airport for a few more minutes before we re-start the madness.

I want people to understand that prioritizing pedestrians includes *blind and partially sighted folks* and this design does not. There is no detectable difference for them between the sidewalk & bike lane. And the tactile warning strip at the intersection means nothing to a guide dog.

In traffic engineering, the delay drivers cause each other is valued and justifies major public road projects, but the delay drivers cause pedestrians is not generally not valued. Instead, pedestrian protections are still usually regarded as safety measures that delay “traffic” (motorists).

If you had access to Universal Basic Income (UBI), what passion project would you be enabled to do? I would volunteer as a trail builder. So many trails need love around here. It’s just too expensive to live without working full+ time.

Same sad feelings here. Bikes are joy machines. It’s sad to see someone lose that.

Thanks. I should have read the thread before commenting. I see it there now. Stealing from a bike cage in a parkade with cameras is pretty bold. There has been a bit of discussion about locks on the Halifax Cycle Chat Facebook group if she is looking to upgrade (assuming this was a cable).

Sorry to see this. It’s been a bad summer for bike theft. Are there bike cages in the new Summer St parkade?! I would hope there would be security patrol there too.

This is a really excellent point. Teens should absolutely be able to access healthcare by transit.

Thanks to capitalism, malls are relatively well served by transit. Halifax malls are well known by folks from out of town too. I'm happy to see health care take advantage of that; but wish they'd acknowledge that "accessibility" is more than parking. Probably no thought to public/active transit IMO.

"It's very accessible, lots of parking..." Wouldn't it be great if they thought to mention accessibility by public transit? Which does genuinely seem like it might be reasonable in this location, given the nearby transit terminal.

I'm no expert, but I think burying a survey URL inside a PDF sent via PowerSchool on the 2nd last day of the term is a really BAD way to get parents to engage. Attn: #Halisky & beyond, the Nova Scotia school lunch program survey from the Dept of Ed is here: my.thoughtexchange.com/scroll/91716...

On this Canada Day, with much of HaliSky put on a boil water advisory, I remind you that there are at least 30 First Nations communities across Canada on long-term boil water advisories. The longest of these, 29 years, is in Neskantaga First Nation.

I am sorry about your week. That fire seems especially difficult, just as you are feeling safer/better in your new neighbourhood vs the old one. I hope insurance takes care of things quickly and easily for you.

Sounds like another great hair+helmet combo; and reminds me of the "hair helmet" from the Flight of the Conchords; and also the "hairmet" from Scrubs. Sharing the former, in case you are unfamiliar: www.bikehugger.com/posts/flight...

PS: It's not easy to plan an all ages and abilities route in the suburbs of a hilly city. We've provided details of the road/trail conditions in the ride description, and are happy to take questions if you're wondering if this ride will be a good fit for you and/or your family. Feedback welcome too!

We'll start & end the ride at Shubie Park, and follow @stmack.bsky.social 's #BikeBus route for Michael Wallace Elementary School. We're so excited to see this growth in our community of ride leaders, and to add this suburban route to our roster for #KidicalMassHfx 2024. We hope you can join us. 2/2

Happy Bike Bus Friday for last day of school!

Starting the walking bus was so easy and has been enjoyable all year. 10/10 would recommend.

Attention #BikeHfx. There's a neighbourhood pathway on the next #KidicalMassHfx ride that doesn't have a curb cut. Anyone have suggestions for ramps that would suit this purpose, or maybe one for us to borrow? We'd like something wide enough for a double-wide bike trailer, which is 80cm/31inches.
