It's enough to make me unsubscribe except I WASN'T subscribed but then I recently complained to my brother about having to let my Times games sub lapse because I'm currently unemployed (I'm a daily crossworder) and he just gifted me a year of the all-encompassing subscription... Sticking to games.

@stonkers.bsky.social loves the movie Clue. I think it's silly but forgettable. I adore The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai. She thinks it's dull and not as cool as it thinks it is. Which of us is right? Watch the video to find out (spoiler: we both are). 🎥🎬📽️

It was really a doc about McCarthy's personal struggle with his own neuroses more than anything, and I enjoyed it for being that - it was honest and didn't try to make him out to be above it all. That said, did anyone else find it odd that Anthony Michael Hall wasn't mentioned even 1 time by anyone?

I'm just saying, there was an earthquake felt in VT in April, a total solar eclipse, a bright and active aurora recently, a planetary alignment this morning, and I saw this shit yesterday. WTF is the universe trying to tell us?

Well fwiw Bernie has been doing way more than most to recruit young progressives into congress — Our Revolution, etc. and there are Vermonters who need his earned capital right now and don’t have the luxury of looking several congresses ahead. YMMV

VT law requires a rapid special election in the case of a senate vacancy and VT will always elect a progressive, regardless of the political winds in DC. I'm all for younger reps, but (as a Vermonter) I'm happy w/ Bernie staying where he is for as long as possible.

Just as a practical matter, as long as he's capable, I think it's more important to keep his seniority-earned power in the senate (chair of healthcare committee, etc.) than to pass the baton to a younger & inexperienced senator w/ no real influence. He does make a difference there.

This mashup happened organically in the car this morning as @stonkers.bsky.social and I were discussing the coming week. She started quoting Rabbot and I chimed in with "🎶Happy Days!🎶" Then I had to rush home and manifest it. Sorry, Internet.

Andrew Davies’ 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is vastly superior to the 2005 film adaptation starring Tom Wambsgans. That’s just science.

A job posting I was going to apply for required me to provide my "Kolbe A Index" score, and it costs me $55 to acquire such a score. It's just pseudoscientific nonsense, right? It sure looks like it at first blush.

I agree, but I think the technological/cultural changes that result in a decline in culture-defining movies/books/TV are broadly the same things that have disrupted the pop music industry/fanbase. So while our consumption habits and cultural drivers may be different, its still worthy of comparison.

I tend to agree and would have said the same thing about the era of giant culture-defining pop stars, but Taylor Swift has thrown that theory for a loop. So this may be a phase.

Insight I just had in a text chat: the eclipse at 95% totality was just like badly done day-for-night cinematography in old westerns. It was weird, but still familiar. Totality doesn't really have an analog. It's just deeply, unsettlingly odd.
