When the american liberals use France's election as an illustration of the need to VOTE, they ignore that people were not only voting against the far right but *for* something. They voted for a campaign which promises to: increase minimum wage, lower retirement age, pay for all childcare, etc

Notably, the back half is also where Kunihiko Ikuhara takes over as series director for Junichi Sato and will stay there for the next 2 1/2 seasons (plus the R movie, which is the best of the lot).

I suspect this would have fared better if had not been turned into a Jaws sequel (especially since its ties to the original are so flimsy and are completely irrelevant to the story at large). It would have still be a shameless and stupid Jaws ripoff, but it would be more honest.

I believe that if you're going to make a movie in 3D, then you should shamelessly lean into the gimmick and make it fun, and this movie absolutely delivers on that front (and little else, lol).

...So that was one of the most amazingly stupid films I have ever seen. Just completely pants-on-head dumb, as well as shameless propaganda for Sea World. There are heroic dolphins, terrible SFX, ridiculous 3D jump scares, and so much more. I loved it. Laughed my ass off.

I honestly have mixed feelings about the new Rayearth adaptation. I think the original did a good enough job at fleshing out the world that was a little barebones in the manga. A new adaptation might erase that if they are trying to faithfully adapt the manga.

Once I started reading the novels, I realized just how much Ishiguro and his crew brought to the original LOGH. Those books are very much focused on Reinhart and Yang, but the OVAs expand on the cast and the world so much and make that story so much richer.

Fair, fair, but Dezaki did the biggest portion and directed the majority of the show's most iconic moments. But GOD, the last thing we need is another manga-faithful adaptation of a classic shojo property. Again, Sailor Moon Crystal showed us how that can fail.

And those were from Studio 4C! Who is normally a very daring and experimental studio with interesting directors! (You can certainly argue that their mix of 2D and 3D animation has aged more gracefully than most of their peers). MAPPA...is not that.

The new Rose of Versailles movie looks like the gilded manga covers in motion, which I dunno sure, that's a direction. Kinda boring and safe. But then you open the books and take in the face melting, hella 70s comics within and MAPPA would never.

This feels very much like a Sailor Moon Crystal sort of situation. It's a remake made more for the sake of an anniversary and a fresh infusion of merch money instead of bringing something new and/or fresh to the material.
