Interesting tidbit:
“If our ordinary conversations are secret, this should be secret squared”, by Oppenheimer on D-T interaction testing in Harvard’s cyclotron.

They built a similar modular service tower at Los Alamos for test the diagnostic rack before shipping. It is still there today. A lot of the diagnostic rack transport equipment is too! Probably could see the orange rack on google earth.

At the test site they would lower the test diagnostic rack down the hole with one of these modular services towers. Also, they would monitor diagnostics from the control point in the war room during the test.

Today in 1998, Atomic Audit was published, becoming the first and only comprehensive, cumulative accounting of the full costs of US nuclear weapons and weapons-related programs. Back then, we conservatively estimated total spending at nearly $5.5 trillion (1996 dollars). It now exceeds $12 trillion.

Zooey and the kittens are getting along very well. Zooey gets cranky sometimes when the kittens encroach on some of his special spaces, but he tolerates even that.
