I wish we could take a look at capping electricity to companies running AI - go over the cap, and the price escalates. a lot. with distinctively un-generous breakpoints and when they say, "We can't run AI like this" we say, "We kind of hoped that would be the outcome"

gonna caveat this with the first two books revolve around white Aelanders, with the protagonist in the third book making appearances but only the third book is centered on black Samindans. If I wrote that series today I'd do it differently.
