Every time I see a video of a person preparing any kind of food and all the comments are full of people crying that they aren’t wearing gloves and it’s “soooo unhygienic” all I can think is “you will not survive the winter”
Depends on what they are prepping, gloves aren’t always required. I say this from 30+ years of restaurant experience, people are more likely to wash their hands when necessary than change their dirty or cross contaminated gloves.
Seriously? In a fast food place, sure, maybe, but those are usually ostensibly shot in a home kitchen (or like, in a field for one guy I’ve seen). Should they keep the gloves on when they *eat* the sandwich or what?
Nearly every time I see one of those “nooo this is unhygienic!” comments I just wonder if they don’t clean. I saw someone say counters are too dirty for prepping food, but surely you clean those? And wash your hands? And clean the sponge/cloth? It’s so weird
I get the eggs from the chicken coop and if they don’t have *too* much shit on them, I just crack them directly into the bowl to scramble for breakfast. Only bother to wash ‘em if there’s a risk some of the dried shit might flake into the bowl.
Usually when i see someone prep in gloves they’re cross-contaminating their entire kitchen anyway. Grabbing spice jars after chicken breast, because everyone assumes plastic gloves are sterile indefinitely
They’d have more success just fucking washing their hands
It's pointless security theatre like TSA lines. Most surface contamination germs are killed during cooking. Only real concern is working with ground meat, fresh fish, or shellfish - where parasites can contaminate the insides AND people tend to undercook them without realizing.
People obsessed (like obsessed obsessed) with cleaning / sterilization are wild. Like, were only here because our bodies are amazing and gross horror machines
Human bodies are designed so even the dumbest of us, still have a fighting chance even when shit is gnarly
