It’s about flow of information feeling natural. Not a sudden “word from our sponsors” ad break in the story. Or an exposition dump of what a character already knows to cover the writer’s ass from feeling embarrassed.

The “can’t build proper nests because we bred their instinct out of them” thing is kind of an urban legend, even wild, undomesticated, ancestral Rock doves in their native habitat just throw in a couple sticks and call it a day, it’s just that in their natural habitat they nest in holes like this

The Canadian tundra version of this is my next door neighbour ploughed the roads in town and would dump the snow in our side yard so we had a big hill to sled down, and we’d build a quinzhee out of the top part of it with our dad every year.

You want to know something horrible I didn’t know that you could warp to aetherytes until I was like level 30 because I misunderstood the way that they were introduced and thought that attuning to them was how to set them as your new “return” respawn point, so I had no fast travel for most of ARR

I mean, if you want to learn to oil paint there’s no other medium that behaves quite like it and no cheaper way about it, it’s true that it’s got a high cost of entry, but it’s also true that you’ll get better at oil painting if you do a lot of oil painting

I mean, you’re still “doing it over and over until it doesn’t suck”, just slower and with a more calculated approach. And on fewer pieces because oil paints give you a huge margin of error to rework the paint on failed attempts while it spends 47 years drying
