Conventional tool changers change the whole tool holder. Which means you have a toolholder for every tool in the rack. This makes it easier but toolholders are big and expensive.

I guess it constrains it in the direction of the wire. And there are 6 degrees of freedom in conventional space so it makes sense. As long as no 2 are in the same direction. I remember looking up things like combinatorial maps for my pcb program This isn't the one i was looking for but im now gonna read it lol. you can add planes (layers) to avoid tracks crossing. This image doesn't represent that. But its just a way of mapping, it doesn't really offer anything helpful

Something I made a while ago, a tool changer for my cnc machine. It's got some m1.6 screws in it somewhere. It undoes the chuck and pulls the drill out lol
