I agree that is often the case, the sense of smell is super tied to memory. I have a very meh sense of smell (deviated septum) and ADHD memory, but smell is one of the few transportive memory mechanisms I have. But you gotta be in it to smell it. The CT tobacco valley smells different than MA hills.

Much to my chagrin, apple’s in-built plant ID is fairly accurate, especially when plants are in bloom. PlantNet is also quite good for a mobile app. And as per the master gardener, if there are things threatening to bloom in succession, I’d think many are deliberate and not weeds 😀

The first thing I’d recommend is to try to ID as many plants as you can. Map them out if you have the ability, get a sense of the original plan. It can give you a good idea of what you might want to foster and others (perhaps higher maintenance/dying plants) you might relegate to compost for now.
