It's still used in Hiberno-English, although probably not as common as it used to be.

"Shocked the world"? No, I don't think that's right.

Dove advertising to Irish Facebook users with a picture of Thierry Henry. The comments under the ad are exactly as you'd expect.

My favourite part is where Ireland would willingly leave the EU to join a group led by the fucking UK. What sort of drugs do you need to be on to come up with something so untethered from any sort of reality?

You're all wrong. The worst song of all time is Closer Than Close, by Rosie Gains. Thankfully it didn't seem to retain its popularity post the 90s, so it's years since I've heard it. Words cannot ever fully express how much I loath that song.

Horrendous & unacceptable.

A supremely talented & successful athlete, Rhasidat
has represented this country on the world stage. This country, Ireland, being the country of her birth.
She has achieved more in her 21 years than the keyboard warriors will do in a lifetime.

While they no longer race in WEC, or IMSA, LMP2 is still a class at Le Mans.

I'm sure many of these sort of people, who no doubt think they're being inclusive (a word they probably dislike for being too "woke"), would be very unimpressed to find out that in Ireland calling someone a (West) Brit is an insult.

It's the legal name of the country. If they're unhappy they can campaign to change. NI has a route to leave the UK if they want. Scotland can campaign for for another chance.

Those chains already have fine names & while NAA is not perfect, it's a whole lot better than a term that ignores the wishes of millions of people & imposes on them the identity of the peoples that colonised then for centuries. My preference is UK and Ireland, or GB and Ireland (and Man if relevant)

This is a better diagram that doesn't use an outdated, colonial name that isn't acceptable to the Irish people or government.

John Waters has an especially awful one. One side has his pic and a heap of text promising things that are nothing to do with an MEP, & a load of unnecessary apostrophes. Other side is QR codes, so you can hear more of his shit. The only colour on the leaflet is in the pic of him looking disheveled

I'm always glad I've never signed up for TikTok. It's enough arguing with these dipshits in Facebook and Reddit. It's like it's the only piece of knowledge of the world outside of Freedumbland, and they're going to defend it to the death in case they accidently end up learning something new.

Have no pictures, smells, sounds, it any other sense in my head. Just my and my internal monologue - which is just a monotone. (No reading things in Morgan Freeman's voice etc.)

But no, the term can't be changed until *everyone* agrees on an alternative. The fact that millions of people object to the current term is not important. And, of course, there's always an objection to any alternative.

Given how often I see it written like this, I think the full name is "The British Isles, which is geographic term". If you constantly have to defend it's "geographicness", it's clearly fucking political.

I'd avoid British Isles too. It's seen as very colonial in Ireland, and it's rejected as a term by the government. In general, anything that even hints that Irish people are British is extremely offensive.

Marko isn't British. Norris knows absolutely nothing outside his racing bubble. He is genuinely thick as pigshit, and proud of it. He struggles to find the UK on a map of the world and thinks that's funny.

It looks like there's a bit of it above the "in" in Dublin and the rest is blocked by Belfast. Both cities look to be capitals too. And before partition they could have used UK over both islands, instead of British Isles which is only used by Brits still salty about losing (most of) their colony.

No, we don't. It's a political term that only entered the English language to make a claim over Ireland. (Yes, some ancient Greeks used similar terms, but they never visited, so who cares.) Continued use of the term contributes the the centuries long attempts at Irish cultural erasure by the British
