mmm i’m not sure we’d want to treat pds as a community proximity marker, feels like a more virtual/interchangeable concept to me

what feed are you using? discover shouldn’t be showing super stale stuff, so this may be a bug. a screenshot would be helpful next time you see it!

in Stephen’s case, i think the “fix” isn’t to display bsky.social domains in a nicer way compared to others, but to consider moving his identity to @stephenking.com which Stephen already owns (but this would require a bit of a technical setup)

note bluesky doesn’t have the same notion of “servers” as in mastodon, i.e. your identity isn’t tied to where you store your data. the domain only reflects your identity. that said i do think there is a concern of privileging the “default” domain in the ui because it makes custom domains “less cool”

has anyone observed a phenomenon where eating certain food with your partner is much tastier than eating it alone even though it’s the same exact food (like from the same takeout place)

i don’t really understand rave music, can you send me some sets that make you feel a certain way? feeling happy / joyous / euphoric would be nice but open to other feelings as well

this sounds like a misunderstanding to me — there isn’t much information that the bluesky app could send that isn’t already known from the network. i’m 80% sure what you’re seeing is our lack of image optimization which means they’re many many times larger than should be bsky.app/profile/dana...

would need to look more but my initial guess is this is likely due to us serving huge images for avatars in the feed (we’ve been meaning to optimize this for a long time but haven’t gotten to it)

the weird thing about being on the internet is nobody really notices when you disappear cause there’s always enough stuff to fill the timeline. i’m overstating it but it’s partially true. there’s nonzero count of people you forgot about because they stopped posting or deactivated

there should be a more ephemeral form of like that you don’t have to press a button to send. just staring intently at the post. on the receiving side it manifests as your phone heating up. if it gets too hot you have to stop posting

so the question to me is do we want to go suboptimal (json), invent our own thing (that’s most likely haha) or reuse/bastardize existing work that already solved a lot of these problems (my exploration)

the way to express a ui tree should definitely not be tied to react (plus we’d want it to be directly available from other backends etc). however pure json is not ideal for a few reasons, and if you extend json to be better for ui trees you’ll end up with something like the rsc wire format

note that even this exploration isn’t technically tied to react on either side — it’s not hard to write a serializer/deserializer for that wire format with any technology on either side, especially if you only target a small subset. the simplest case is it’s essentially just json (but a bit better)

i’m mostly thinking about it as a bsky app feature here, not a protocol thing. it doesn’t really connect to the protocol, i’d say it’s more an exploration of an alternative *to* building more concepts into the protocol itself
