An urbane, educated fascist is still a fascist.
They also used “talisman” incorrectly, it should be plural. As a bonus, the image they chose to evoke was steeped in colonial white supremacy. So that was nice.
Whoever wrote this is a TEMU William F. Buckley.

For the GOP this is a play for rural whites. They DGAF about non-white folks, rural or not.
It’s a good policy (stopped clocks, amiright?), but it would be best coupled with free college and student grants so that non-rich people can get an education without living on credit.

The idea is that there has been an inflation in job reqs. Many jobs that don’t need a BA require one now. This prevents economically disadvantaged people from taking those jobs.
Racially marginalized and rural folks are less able to access to higher ed, so it hurts them particularly.

This is why it’s important to find ways to sell the same piece multiple times. Low cost reproductions as things like stickers or art prints are a great way to do this.
My offspring does beadwork, for example, and they have stickers made of some of their pieces that sell quite well.

That’s depressing AF, but if you read Calhoun’s speech on the Oregon Territory, it is pretty clear that he thought having a permanent underclass of Black people stabilized class relations Southern society.

I think the argument is that if you ban the speech of Nazis or “terrorists” all you have to do to justify any act of censorship is call the person you want to silence a Nazi or a terrorist.
But OTOH, it’s hard to justify letting them engage in hate speech. Especially since we know it harms people.

What I wanted to hear Biden say:
“You disgust me sir. You are a liar, a cheat, a narcissist. It sickens me to share the stage with a man like you. But I am here because I am here to to ask the American people, the people who love democracy, the people who truly love this country, to stop you.”

I’m with you 100% except for when people say “honing in”. I reserve the right to be irrationally angry about that.
That’s not what the word “hone” means or how you use it as either a verb or a noun (outside of this execrable eggcorn).
Watch out for the honing pigeons, they have very sharp beaks!

I wonder if it’s more effective at helping people if it’s monthly or annual.
When you’re just getting by, being able to get a lump sum all at once is a chance to take care of big expenses that you haven’t been able to manage.
OTOH, once a year is a long time between payouts.

The powerful need to balance the total desperation in the system. Make too many people too desperate and you spend your life trying not to wind up like Mussolini.
Levers like healthcare and education are also very powerful & less likely to lead to pitchforks.
Still, hunger is the ultimate lever.

That’s because, for the oligarchs, it’s not about absolute wealth, it’s about relative wealth.
They can already buy any things they want.
For the abstract things like impunity, and power, making everyone else poor makes them easier to acquire.
A hungry person will do almost anything for food.
