I get the worry that the SCOTUS ruling will embolden Trump should he win re-election but we should also worry about how it will embolden him to commit crimes *now* to win power.

The GOP undoubtedly has Plans A, B, and C to steal the Electoral College via the swing-states, or deny anyone 270 EC votes (watch the troll-bots push votes for RFK Jr - he's this year's spoiler) so the decision goes to the House, which would give it to Trump. That's why Blue turnout matters.

Trump is proving your point now, he says that campaign-finance felonies he committed in 2016 before the election are basically covered under the Republican Justices' immunity ruling (as well as lying in business records while he was president to hide those felonies).
