It’s also important to remember that the “Biden loyalists” digging in around his candidacy are fighting for their own relevance even more than they are their boss’s. Other than being an authoritarian apparatchik in a Trump administration, when would anyone in their position ever have more power?

If I had to demonstrate my candidate’s vigor to do the job, but knew I couldn’t, this is exactly how I’d pretend to do it, too. Create a few very-low-bar moments on the Friday of a holiday weekend and then flood the zone with declarations of victory.
