I am weirdly pollyannish about Harris/Dem X versus Trump. The "cheapfake/selective video" convo fits better with Harris - bc she makes little news, all people see of her are the wackiest/loopiest quotes. The basic "you lied to us and said Biden could handle it" problem is bigger.

I think the “you lied to us” problem could be put to bed with a “Joe declined” argument. That would work even stronger if he gave her a strong endorsement and said “I’m not up to it, but I trust Kamala.” Would she actually do better? 🤷🏻♂️

Don’t see that as problem at all for normals. She’s been out of sight. Plenty of room to redefine herself as a person with a vision for the country. Nobody remembers what politicians say - see “Trump.”

Harris is already on the ballot. It is clear after the debate that if Biden is elected, Harris will likely be president on the next 4 years. If you don’t think she can get elected on her own, then Biden can’t get elected with her as VP either.

I think the second thing is a huge deal. Not so much “you lied to us”, voters are usually chill about partisans have each others’ backs. But just in general, whatever problems Biden has, every other Dem will have to answer for.

I think Harris would do about as well as any other plausible non-decrepit Dem candidate at this point, and polling seems to back that up. But I don't see how you pull off a transition at this point unless Biden resigns or dies.
