It's easy to explain. You always give more attention to the thing which you are interested in. The things you don't support tend to be in the backline of your thoughts if you ever think of them. So when those 'bad' things take over you simply weren't noticing their rise to prominence

This is a strange spot, legally. Technically fanfic based on IP owned by others isn't copyrightable so there can't be infringement against the writer of the fanfic. And also it's illegal to sell the fanfic (as you can't sell work based on someone else's copyright)
