Die erste typografische Druckwerkstatt auf der iberischen Halbinsel eröffnete ein gewisser Juan Párix um 1470 (in #Segovia). "Juan" hiess eigentlich Johannes Parix und kam gebürtig aus #Heidelberg. Diese Steinsäule erinnert an ihn und Spaniens typografischen Druckbeginn

This Middle Dutch manuscript (ca. 1400) shows how parchment warps when exposed to intense heat—in this case, during a WWII bombing raid. No longer readable as a book, it's still a powerful historical source.

Someone cut out an image from a German #broadside of the 1620s. This image shows #Luther, on the left, on the right is #Calvin, and the guy in the middle is the Pope.
My guess, #bookhistory: it was neither a Protestant image hunter nor a Catholic insultee. It was rather a rare book trader.

Recently, I was peer reviewing a paper, and it cited one of my papers. Except... it wasn't anything I had written. The title sounds like something I'd write. It included coauthors I work with, and was in a journal I've published in. But it wasn't real. AI is not good for science.

Ein #Blumengruß aus der Vergangenheit: Vor 300 Jahren, im Juli 1724, blühte in #Hamburg eine besonders schöne Kerzen-Palmlilie. Die Yucca gloriosa, um die es ging, schaffte es sogar bis in die Zeitung. Am 5. Juli 1724 brachte der "Hamburgische Correspondent" folgende Meldung:

Bonusdetail: die kleinen Kreuze sind übrigens stilisierte #Bienen, die um den Bienenkorb herum fliegen. Der Bienenkorb ist in der christlichen Ikonographie das Symbol für die Gottesmutter Maria, die in sich "alle Süße", also Jesus, trug.
