A lot of Western capitalists operated for a half century under the delusion they needed democracy. But they’ve seen evidence in states like Singapore they can make bank under authoritarians, even if they eventually destabilize. They won’t mind if Americans don’t get an election for a decade or two.

one theory that holds water is that they're creating a new America that's easier to mine for resources, a la what the British did to its former colonies in Africa & the Middle East another is they're fearful that we Americans will vote out the people destroying the world- so they're preventing that
