We should take pride in our art, in our creations. We live complicated lives, juggling so many other things, struggling with health, money, socio-political issues, this changing weather, all the AI nonsense, everything stacked against us. Yet we’re still here, still creating. 🧵

So if you’re also struggling with similar feelings, I invite you (and myself) to ask why. Who are we measuring ourselves against? Who set the standard of what’s “achievement enough”? Why is the goalpost continuously shifting? Is our Mother to blame? Sorry, I digress. 🧵

With half of 2024 gone, I’ve often felt like I haven’t achieved enough this year. No short stories out yet. No book deals yet. But today, I got paid for my fiction, upcoming in a wonderful anthology, and was reminded that achievements can also be qualitative, not quantitative. 🧵

That makes perfect sense to me, I had a pasta “recipe” I used to make for my friends, they called it simply “death”

He’s autistic, I’m ADHD.
When he cooks, it’s science. Milligrams are measured, temperatures are taken, timers are set.
When I cook, it’s chaos magic. You’re getting a delicious meal, but don’t ask me what I did or why the kitchen looks like a battlefield. Demons might have been invoked. Just eat.
