We're science fiction writers. Of course we write stories about the consequences of technological innovations, and no one ever comprehends the story is about the consequences and not the technology

The whole way up the Gulf of Bothnia, everywhere we stopped, we said to each other, "No, I was wrong before, THIS is Finnish Duluth." It just kept getting more like the Lake Superior North Shore.
(I love the Lake Superior North Shore. So this was great.)

Our Dakota County Libraries here in Minnesota have a lot of this stuff as well. Tools of all sorts, museum passes you can check out for free, recording studio spaces...
Helsinki's is grand, and I'm glad for them, but it's not an impossible dream to have in the US too.

I just said "good night" when hanging up the phone with my mother.

Never go to the Rosemount Farmer's Market.
Usually the punctuation of "farmer's market" is idiosyncratic, but in this case I think there really was only one farmer, and not a prolific one.

Salt licorice. My people, who hurt you.
I mean, the Russians, and the Germans repeatedly, and each other, a whole heck of a lot of each other. But enough to produce this salt licorice obsession? They put it in chocolate. It's not okay.

Today I wrote a new story I didn't intend to write. I've had the opening line to it since before we moved home in 2003, but today was the first day when I had the actual story.
Brains, who even knows.
