Just a very quick note to let you all know I've updated our submission guidelines. The information is all the same, but I think it will be easier to read and understand with this new layout.
I'm working on getting LSQ set up on Payhip, for folks who prefer that service. We also make a bit more from each sale than on Gumroad. If you haven't gotten a copy of the current issue, now is a great time!
I just realized that when I've been linking to our patreon posts, y'all are seeing a big LSQ-color square. I didn't realize how un-enticing that looked until I saw them all in a line.
I'll get pretty images on those posts from now on so y'all have something nice to look at. ☺️
For our paid patrons (come try out a free trial!), today I wrote a bit about rest and rejuvenation as I balance my day job, LSQ responsibilities, and all that life stuff.
I'm running a public poll right now on our Patreon and would love your input. What benefits do you find valuable as a thank you for supporting LSQ? What would you like to see that would make you sign up to support us financially?
In a few words, we're kind of the opposite of grimdark. We look for stories that are empowering. The story, especially the ending, doesn't have to be happy-go-lucky, but should have a thread of hope to it. We make exceptions, but that's what we prefer.
Thank you so much for asking!
There's a lovely feature about LSQ as a whole, with reviews of stories from our back catalog, in this issue! Thanks so much to @fusionfragment.bsky.social for featuring us!
It's been a minute since I've had a short story published, so check out this one! It's body horror about domestic abuse and fatphobia, with queer witches for the win! Please read and let me know what you think, especially if you like it!
As a follow up, I'm thinking about getting our print editions set up on lulu.com or some other print-on-demand service so folks had an option besides Amazon for buying print copies.
I'm thinking about bringing our Ko-fi and buymeacoffee pages in parity with Patreon, posting the same content in all 3 places.
I've heard that some folks prefer not to use Patreon. Would these other options be of interest to you all?
I've made some zines. I reread "Sarah, Plain and Tall". I cooked a veggie burger on the grill. These are things I've done since releasing Issue 058. What comes next?
We're still rebuilding subscriptions (since Amazon abandoned them) and pushing back against the generated submissions on a daily basis. We'd like to keep doing so. The path forward requires us to keep shouting from the rooftops, so... clarkesworldmagazine.com/subscribe/ Thank you!
I don't see folks using tags much, even though they're now a thing on Bluesky. Does anyone use tags for their work? What do you all use? What should I use for LSQ's posts?
Yee! Luna Station Quarterly 058 is out and includes my story "37 Seconds to Say Goodbye"! A tale of time loops and Shakespeare and how even death can become pretty monotonous once you've done it enough times. Oh, and bad limericks.
It's here! It's here! Check out the new issue of Luna Station Quarterly (@lunastation.bsky.social) which includes my story "Monstrous Attractions" and a TOC packed with other amazing authors!!!
My short story, "Date Night" about a pair of robots trying to figure out what dating was like in a far, far future, is available in the latest issue of Luna Station Quarterly! Consider picking it up.
Woo! The new issue of Luna Station Quarterly is out now! Come pick up a copy, enjoy some excellent stories this weekend, and support our talented authors! www.lunastationquarterly.com/blog/issue-0...
Toooomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow.
The new issue of LSQ is coming out on a Saturday! Since so many folks are offline then, here's an extra heads up.
It's only a day away...
(Follow us on Patreon or sign up for our newsletter so you don't miss an issue!)
Remember when Storygraph was the great new book website that was gonna do things right? Ah, well.
I checked, and for all my books it sands down what the book is about to nothing, to generic sameness of interchangeable content... which is all the algorithm wants, isn't it?
*puts on fiction editor hat*
When you're submitting your work anywhere, please please please please read the guidelines. It sucks to reject a story because the submission is not anonymous when the submission guidelines asks for anonymous subs.
Raise your hand if you were a vampire fanatic as a teenager and every year when Dracula Daily starts up your inner adolescent gets unreasonably excited. ✋
As I was setting up the contracts for the coming issue, I realized something. Until now I've paid out 3 months after publication, but thanks to our patrons I don't have to wait anymore!
If you look around, you might find some authors posting out LSQ acceptances. If you'd like the full list, consider joining our Patreon. I post regular sneak peeks to our subscribers throughout production time. www.patreon.com/posts/its-he...
This is why I started both my Scarlet Ferret ebookshop, and Libreture to store your ebooks and find & connect to the indie book, comic, magazine, and RPG shops that sell them.
Building better, alternative, and indie-centric ecosystems seems to be essential now.
Darlings, write that book.
Ignore the 'not selling' rhetoric.
Write the book.
Write your fix-up novels or your trashy book or your serious historical epic or your barely-disguised autobiography or your pew-pew SF.
The people who love books depend on you.
Do not fail them.
