I'm susceptible too, for a good amount of time even I was pushing hard on the issue of Biden's electability post-debate before taking a deep breath. When I make the infantilism mockery, it's of the very much tired "voting doesn't matter" point we've seen for a century at this point, is what I mean.

so there's a problem with "polarization" as a term, in that people tend to conflate various different dynamics (i think this is fairly decent: academic.oup.com/book/39301/c...)

They weaponize the fact that to the average dumdum, the most "reasonable" position is *precisely in the middle* between two sides. By pushing this "polarization" myth, they get to sound fancy when describing modern politics and nudge the plebs towards a direction the dummies *think* is "reasonable"

There actually is the German term "Halbwissen" ("half-knowledge") that describes what those people have. Often "gefährliches Halbwissen" ("dangerous half-knowledge") is used to describe someone making a bad decisision based on this level of being informed

Let's not underestimate the value of a physical, VISIBLE identification of attendees though. Avoiding infiltration by outsiders, especially of the "internet prankster" or mass shooter (I hold both in equal contempt) is vital, and phyisical badging is an additional hurdle to those.
