I spoke to 3 different women, got their feedback, put it in writing, anonymized it, used a burner email to get their feedback for accuracy, and cut+ pasted it into my evaluation letter. Bye bye motherfucker, you'll never get any honors given the litany of "OMG we had NO idea" from the committee.

I'm no paragon of virtue. Would never claim that, being a real human with issues. That being said, one of my proudest moments in academe was when a Problematic Whisper Network Abuser™️ in my field was being considered for a Very Big Honor™️, I was the main evaluator, and I totally fried his ass.

I think about all the women who have dropped out of archaeology because of the abuse they faced in classrooms and in the field. Hell, I was told to leave the field multiple times by a horrid asshole who still has a job. Fuck him. Fuck all the abusers.

"300,000... at the most" is a longstanding antisemitic conspiracy theory based upon a misreading of a 1979 Red Cross document that discusses 271,301 death certificates issued at 13 concentration camps. Nazi documents themselves show the vast majority killed were not issued death certificates.

All worth discussing and considering. I'm an Egyptologist+ I have to dig/ conserve/ survey... it's what I do. I believe there is an ethical path to doing joint missions and true collaborative work in foreign countries. It's a fine line+ deserves all the criticism that William gives.
