it's extremely well constructed. everything is character-driven plot beats and fairly tight exposition. a high concept movie with no fat on it

in like 2010 I was playing power stone on my old dreamcast, beat the final boss without taking any damage and I turn to see my roommate watching stoned-faced, because I had been playing SIGNIFICANTLY worse in vs matches with him to keep him playing and this is how he found out

scope and budget. them responding to you is the baseline, so those lines *have* to be voiced. so them leading a given conversation is way less common, PLUS there're 6-7 of them. so you leading is what happens 95% of the time; them happens 5%. then split that by 6-7. replies play 100x more than leads

yeah I quit entirely the first time because the family I had built up a base for after I intentionally decided to like/protect (because I found a missing necklace for them or something) just to have *some* investment, got slaughtered while I was miles away in a sewer and couldn't fast travel to them

by "second attempt" of course I mean a second effort to get more than a few hours into the game. I fell off again when I got to the gas station and A) realized that crafting materials weren't shared across "settlements" and then B) remembered how much of the game was a very bad basebuilding sim

what really blew me away in my second attempt was the contrast of waking up in goodsprings (engaging NPCs, establishes theme and setting, ideal tutorial mission right away) vs starting in the neighborhood (no one to talk to but generic robot butler, extremely empty houses, zero reason to keep going)
