I thought about that too! He definitely crawled onto the screen because bright light = where the bugs hang out. Doesn't get much brighter than post-apocalyptic Australia. Lucky for him we weren't watching The Crow or something.

For a while I was working on a map of all the places where I see alligators, hoping to learn something about their movement, nesting habits, seasonal behavior, etc -- and one day I realized I'd made a map of all the places where the view of the bayou isn't obstructed by trees.

Plus coyotes now. I've only had one very random encounter with one in the woods (we scared the crap out of each other), but people have recently figured out where they're living and have made their dens, and it's hard to resist walking right there every morning to say hi to them.

Although it really is a weird idea to be able to walk to dozens of different spots within the limits of this (major?) American city and see alligators that are 5, 6, 7 feet long, just hanging out.

Neighbors like to ask me about wildlife I've seen when they see me coming home from my morning walk. One neighbor, who is always sitting on his stoop, told me, while sitting on his stoop, that he didn't know you could see alligators here. I said, yeah, they don't come up on your stoop.
