It was the hottest August in #Miami's history, by a big margin. It set new monthly records of temperature and heat index. In fact, the monthly average heat index exceeded 105°F, just as it did in July, for the first time. @miamirosenstiel.bsky.social [1/2]

C-Streams and FOCUS research cruises aim to learn more about how the enormous poleward fluxes of heat and carbon, salt and nutrients within the Gulf Stream, especially those carried by waters that have traveled all the way from the high latitudes, influence the climate of North America and Europe.

Miami just had 5 consecutive days with record-breaking heat indices. That also makes 42 new record high heat indices set in the past 79 days! In addition, 2023 set new monthly-average heat index records in July AND August. That's not easy to do, but here we are...
