I cared more about watching the slaver choke to death than I did about the actual stakes of the overall story. Which means they had something that worked, at least. Otherwise this feels like second-screen material.

It feels like a failed adaptation. Too much energy put into moving all of the pieces around the board to trace the skeleton of the source material instead of successfully telling a story. Late season Game of Thrones. It's in such a hurry.

Too much is openly utilitarian in its storytelling. Like Perrin encountering the guy he spared before ("two rivers?!"), then being attacked, his wolf dying to save him, him killing the wolf killer, "two rivers!!!" revenge declaration, all in the chaos of war.

The final confrontation was a classic Everyone's Standing Around, like the end of Bright. The villain just kind of lets everything happen like it's not his turn yet in the JRPG. He seemed poorly communicated, too. If he just wants to die, why does he care about being betrayed?

After the somewhat interesting setup of the four, Rand has just become a remarkably boring Chosen One played completely straight. Perrin and Mat are completely illegible characters that the show seems to have no idea what to do with. They could so be easily cut from it entirely.

Only Egwene and Nynaeve feel like they had a season of TV. The Arches was so upsetting, and the Damane story is sticking with me while the rest is already fading from memory. It doesn't help that the Darkness seems to be a gallery of seasonal FFXIV villains. Ascians.
