When it comes to climate change, we need to retire, or at least put on hiatus, the term "the new normal". This is not the new normal. Normal will keep getting warmer until we stop adding greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

Two exceptional all-time heat records were set today. 124°F in Palm Springs, CA and 106°F in Raleigh, NC. Heat wave is really just beginning to ramp up in the West too.

We did the family trips to the Natl Mall when I was a kid. Like most longtimers here, I wouldn't set foot near the fireworks for years. But oddly I've started going down there again out of morbid curiosity. It's sad to watch how terrified the ducks are.
